Help
Thy Neighbor Ministries, Inc is Florida’s first
independent faith based volunteer center. The concept
for the center was first explored in 2004 after hurricane
Ivan in the Faith Based arena and the vision later came into
fruition, through the incorporation of Help Thy Neighbor Ministries,
Inc., in 2005, following hurricanes Dennis, Katrina and Rita.
HTNM Inc. is driven to EMPOWER COMMUNITIES
and fellow non-profit organizations by engaging families in
volunteering and providing opportunities for everyone regardless
of race, religion or socio economic backgrounds. Through grassroots
initiatives, programs, special events and projects, people
of all walks of life and of all ages can share their talents,
gifts and time year ‘round to meet a community need.
Dedicated to our vision, HTNM Inc. embraces the “neighbors
helping neighbors” concept to connect volunteers to
opportunities large and small, locally, nationally and internationally,
whenever possible. Our primary objective is to deliver creative
solutions to address human needs and social problems by training
and developing citizens to become leaders in neighborhoods
where they worship, work and play.
Although the “volunteering” movement has been
strengthened with the announcement of George W. Bush’s
Faith Based and Community Initiative, it is an ancient concept.
This was evident in panhandle of Florida and in Gulf Coast
regions, where the hurricanes of 2004 and 2005 saw thousands
of volunteers, materials and supplies mobilized into affected
disaster areas. In the after math of the disasters, caring
citizens, especially those in the Faith Based arena, engaged
in countless “acts of kindness”, volunteering
time and assets to help neighbors locally and across state
borders in the recovery and restoration process. We hope to
encourage, engage and equip people to volunteer in neighborhoods
and community organizations to enhance their skills and talents.
For HTNM, Inc. faith based “volunteering”
or “neighboring”, is the ‘heart
of the matter’ when engaging families in useful, meaningful
service opportunities. It is our belief that:
"Strong neighborhoods mean stronger communities.
Strong communities mean stronger cities. Strong cities mean
a stronger nation! Empower neighborhoods…and we empower
our nation!"...
